Rev. Dr. D. Scott Wright

Br. Scott was born in Meridian, MS 53 years ago and has lived in a variety of places during his childhood thanks to being a “military brat.” In 1988 he graduated Meridian High School and joined the Mississippi Air National Guard. Before Boot Camp, Br. Scott went on a “Senior Trip” to Florida and while there, lost his cousin, best friend and another friend in a tragic car accident. This led Br. Scott to consider God’s call in his life. Growing up Roman Catholic, he went off to Seminary in Indiana. It was during his junior year there that he re-discovered Denise, a past girlfriend. During his last year of studying to be a priest, he felt God leading him to ask Denise to marry him. In 1993 he graduated from St. Meinrad Seminary College with a BS in Natural Sciences, left the Roman Catholic Church, joined Poplar Springs Drive United Methodist Church in Meridian of which his father was a member as well as… Denise. Denise and Br. Scott have been married for 29 years, have two beautiful daughters of their own (Kaelin & Ali Grace both in their 20’s), helped raise 6 foster children for the state and has had the wonderful honor of parenting two foreign exchange students (from Ukraine and France)! After college, Br. Scott sold chemicals for the manufacture of pulp and paper for Buckman Labs out of Memphis TN. The time he spent traveling the roads helped him hear the continued call of God on his life. After time spent with his Pastor, he answered God’s call to the ministry in the United Methodist Church. Br. Scott is a graduate of Memphis Theological Seminary with his Master of Divinity Degree as well as the degree of Doctor of Ministry. He has served Mississippi United Methodist Churches for 27 years and is now proud to serve Greenwood First United Methodist Church. Denise has been a public-school Math Teacher for 27+ years and is now proud to be teaching at Central Holmes Christian School in Lexington. Their family loves the outdoors and being involved in their community!
